This was a fascinting emotionall journey while painting this painting,
Custers Last Stand.
Lots of history and research.First starting with the portrait of Custer I was then summoned to do the Last Stand.I do not know why people are drawn to these events, but we are. Leading his men into battle always with his bright red scarf, lucky not getting shot down, he loved the press and when he went to Indian country, he wore his buckskins and red scarf. The press loved it always interviewing him and photographing him. If he was living today, he would be a rock star, loving flamboyant dress and pressing himself on all social media. I had a lot of feelings running thru, what a terrible time for the Indians changing their whole life styles and homes .
It is important for us to not forget history, but to learn that we might have won the battle, but it was wrong.
